The Quiet American
Director: Phillip Noyce. With Michael Caine, Brendan Fraser, Do Thi Hai Yen. (101 min.)
Based on Graham Greene's 1955 novel set during the French Indochina war in the early '50s, Caine plays a British war correspondent who has been dispaioned by age. Fraser is a young American claiming to be on a charity mission but who is secretly scheming to help a Vietnamese general gain control. This drama contains timely themes including terrorism, and the misuse of American power. Both Caine and Fraser are outstanding.
